Project Description

Recently Stanford Health Care (“SHC”) completed construction of the New Stanford Hospital (“500P”); SHC is now in the process of renovating and expanding Stanford Hospital (“300P”) as part of the General Bed Renovation (“GBR”) program which includes modernization of three patient bed towers known as Pods D, E and F, four story additions to Pods D and E as well as sitework to support the modernization and additions. The entire GBR program will be completed over the course of several years. The GBR projects are physically located within the center of the medical campus in Palo Alto, CA. These buildings presently serve as inpatient nursing units. The emergency generators serving these buildings currently operate independently of one another. The purpose of this project is to “parallel” the generators via installation of a paralleling switchgear so that their capacity can be combined to allow for the expansions mentioned above. In general, this project involves upgrading of the existing emergency generator yard via medium voltage electrical upgrades, controls work, excavation, demolition, utility relocations and running of conduit through active hospital corridors.
